Welcome to my blog!

01/01/17 | About Me

In December of 2015, I had an idea to start a blog.  I didn’t know what it would be about, but I just knew I wanted to find a way to express myself.

Here’s a little bit about me.  I have been reading and writing since I could remember.  My parents knew I was going to grow up to become a writer of some sort.

Growing up, I always had this dream that I was going to work for some big time newspaper as soon as I graduated college, write a bunch of articles to fill up my portfolio, and have people who recognized my byline and looked forward to reading my work.

When it was time to go to college, I knew my major was going to be journalism and I never actually changed my major.  During my junior year of college, I participated in a domestic study program at American University where I learned even more about journalism.  I went to the National Press Club on a day to day basis, I interned at a street newspaper, and I was honing my writing skills.  When I graduated college, I knew for sure that I was meant to be in the journalism field, and boy, was I wrong.

I went through about five jobs after I graduated college, all of which were not in the field of journalism.  I went from being a social media marketing intern, to a proofreader, to a public relations assistant at a higher ed institution, to a marketing assistant in a corporate office.  Yes, I did all of this in one year.

While I always enjoyed reading the newspaper, I realized that I didn’t want to work for a newspaper or magazine.  I just didn’t want to be forced to write 10 articles a day about fluffy, journalism jargon about boring trivial news stories.

God was leading me in a different direction, away from journalism, and I had to trust that he was leading me in the right direction.

While I pursued marketing full time, I still had a desire to write.

God gives us gifts that he wants us to use to glorify his name.  The gift he gave me was writing.  While I am no longer an actual journalist, I am still using my gift to reach others.

I felt it in my heart to use a powerful platform to spread his love.  I’d love to reach millions of people through this, but if just one person gets closer to God through this blog, I would feel like I’ve done my job here on Earth.

One thing I want you to take away from this is that God is always with you, you just have to learn to trust in him and ask him to direct your path.  Just how he directed to me to start writing this blog, he will direct you to your purpose.

I hope I inspire you to allow God into your heart, and I hope you continue this journey with me.
